Side mount optic - which height?

I'm going to put a red dot (well, green I think) on the side rail of my scar. Should I use a co-witness style quick release, or a lower profile quick release?

in other words, which of these?

I've been considering offset as well, just want to make sure I get the right mount once I make a decision.
