Sight pusher.

8098 Views 43 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Hamfisted
After sighting in the RMR a couple of weeks ago I found that it doesnt co witness with the irons so I broke out the depth mics and found the front site is almost .050 to the right. Just about the exact amount my co witness is off.
Can anyone recommend a sight pusher that works well with the FNX.45 Tac?

It works well, just have to shim a bit (I used cardboard and tape). Kind of wish the XL was available when I ordered mine, but oh well. Might be able to have a buddy machine a taller blade.
I miss the access to all the machines since I retired. I never bought a special tool in my life up until now.
Oh well, being 46 and done is worth it and I still have a few buds who will let me use their stuff if it's to specialized.

I like that it will work on more than one make of gun. My first sight pusher, a MGW, cost me about $100 and it is only good for the SIG. Works fine but expensive.
I just emailed them to see if the XL will work on my new Sig Sauer P320C, trying to locate either a B&J Machine P500 Pro or MGW Sight Pro is tantamount to turning dirt into precious gems, it ain't hapn'in and I started this sight pusher quest over a year ago....WTH!?!

That thing looks like it would be extremely easy to make. Assuming you have access to a couple shop tools. Basically it is just a piece of cut off square steel tubing, nuts/bolts/washers and a appropriately sized blocks. Hell if I knew the ID size of that square tube, I could easily scale the rest.

Looking at it now. I bet square steel tube stock if relatively cheap. That would be the ONLY thing I wouldnt have readily available. I guess the only thing would be if it is legal for me to make a tool for personal use based on observations of one that it patiented.
UPDATE:

I received an email reply from Danny confirming that the XL will in fact work with my new P320C and my Glock 19 Gen 4 and with suppressor sights for both. Apparently he has a P320C so his confirmation isn't heresay but fact by trial and execution. Since the "other" sight pushers are nowhere to be found within earth's atmosphere and the XL is far and away cheaper, I do believe once I'm done typing this post I'll be entering my CC# to purchase my very own XL. :?

Yes, it would be legal for you to make an identical copy for your own personal usage, as soon as you attempt to market or sell you'll end up in trouble. The only thing here, you'd need access to one which means you'd already have one.

Actually, I believe it is infringement to even make one. At least according to the completely reliable source of info known as wiki. But I am no patent lawyer.

Also, it would be no problem to duplicate it "nearly" identicle simply by looking at a picture and scaling it. Only thing needed is a starting dimension. Lets say I assume the Internal Dimension of the square tube stock is 4". Scaling the placement of the two large bolts is simple. Then simply fill in the remaining sizes for blocks. Now take those dimensions and see if they will work, ie line up, with my sights and if not make some adjustments. That would tell me if I maybe need to start with 3.5" ID square tube to start. Its easily a few hours work.

Or quicker yet, just start with whatever size I want and SET the placement and dimensions to what I need. That still doesnt get me past the Legal aspect of duplicating patented hardware at work. They tend to frown on it and I am not dumb enough to risk my job for something that I can buy by working less hours than it would take me to make anyways.

Well, I just bought the XL so I'm not going to worry about making one. AFAIK, if you make one for yourself and keep it to yourself you're fine legally speaking. There are numerous Legal Eagles in the family none of which is Patent Eagle but if I remember I'll ask one to inquire at their respective firms.

B&J Machine P500 Pro
The manufacturer doesn't have any???
I haven't spoken to B or J so I can't say for sure whether they do or not, I do know having spoken with them in the past, they will sell direct. I have also spoken with Maryland Gun Works in the past, of course they're in Georgia now and focusing on car parts and the last time I spoke with them, they will not sell direct. So I went with the Fisher XL, it's all I need, that and a friend went in half with me. So, for $46+ I have a sight tool.

UPDATE:

My Fisher XL arrived today. First the good news, it installed my new Trijicon rear sights on my Glock 19 and Sig Sauer P320C like a champ.....that's the good news. The bad news, this sight tool did nothing but almost scratch the hell out of my P320C attempting to install the front sight. For two hours I tried every block/shim combination possible to no avail. All it did was twist the slide, I finally did get the front sight installed. Bottom line, this tool is utterly useless for front sights, it offers zero support whatsoever and is hell bent on twisting the slide. Would I recommend this sight pusher to a friend....NO!?! I wouldn't recommend it to an enemy for that matter either. Awesome tool if all you have are rear sights to contend with, it IS going back.

Rant....OFF!

Well that is a shame! After reading this thread and checking them out, they seemed reasonably priced and looked well made. I guess I won't get it after all. Thanks for posting that update. You saved me a headache!

Yeah Donnie don't waste your money. It actually is very well made and inexpensive but unless they come up with something to secure the slide and keep if from twisting when working front sights it's a bust. For rear sights only aka Glock's it's an absolute winner no doubt. I'm going to have to call B & J Machine tomorrow and get a P500 Pro, it like no other sight tool I know of REALLY clamps the slide down and keeps it from moving. The XL is already at the USPS awaiting its journey back to California.......good riddance! :?

You'll love the P500. I have changed the sights (front and rear) on Glocks, Sig P226, P320, FNX 45, multiple 1911's, and it works like a champ. Very well built and solid unit. Good luck finding one. Guess I got lucky when I got mine a little while ago from Brownells.

is it too late for a picture of how you were using it?

i don't understand how it would be fine for the rear but useless for the front.
$290 for a sight pusher? Yes, if I had a shop. Already have a $110 MGW I haven't used in 10 years. Keeping my new $60 Fisher. YMMV
Just had a lengthy conversation with Jim at B&Js about which pusher, std or pro would be better suited for FNx/s and Five-seveN firearms. His sage advice...std w/ancillary gadgets would be better suited for my occasional needs will let you know the verdict by Monday after the tool arrives an i have a chance to accomplish sight change outs on my firearms.
