Good afternoon all, I've settled on a BFG VCAS sling however I'm baffled at how many different attachment points there are available on the market. After doing some research I plan on running it through the factory location at the rear of the stock and then picking up a PMM QD for the front. I don't want to add too much weight (I know it's only a few ounces) with all sorts of metal QD mounts and what not but I'm curious why so many people mount their slings where the factory HK style attachment points are where the stock folds but add a QD there. The only reason I can figure is if you wanted to run a single point and that was your main attachment point but then you loose out on having the ability to have the weapon tight to your body for transitions or slung over your back. I know everyone has there different styles and different preferences, I'm just curious how you guys run your slings but more importantly the reasoning behind it. Thanks

Because that sling attachment point might as well be made out of wood. It gets chewed to sh!t within minutes of attaching a mash hook to it. That's why if you want to use that point you need to use something soft (paracord) or attach a QD point to it. I learned the hard way. Hopefully you won't have to

Gotcha, I saw a few other threads about that, my question was why use that location instead of the very rear of the stock, sorry for any confusion.

Two reasons. If your sling is attached to the stock you won't be able to fold it while the sling is attached. The second reason is- say you dont care about folding the stock. There aren't any easy bolt on sling attachment points. There are several available where you have to drill a hole through the stock but most people don't opt for that. I can't really seeing it make it much more comfortable to carry over the OEM location anyway.

Another option to the paracord which work are the Blue Force wire loops, the wire is coated with plastic similar to Dewey cleaning rods. I only used them for a short time until I changed to the PMMs. The plastic seems pretty heavy duty and didn't wear while I used them and didn't chew up the loop on the Scar although I didn't use them heavily. There are 2 Blue Force options one with a QD cup on the loop for the sling attachment. https://www.blueforcegear.com/universal-wire-loop-w-push-button-socket.html

I'm also a new SCAR owner, wondering about the PMM mounts... Will these mar, bend, dent, or scratch the SCAR eyelets in any way? I'm looking for an non-invasive way of attachment, and if paracord is the only thing that doesn't damage the stock attachment points I'll go that way. Does the attachment of the PMM mounts dig into the eyelet or upper at all?

PMM mounts are cut with precision and they attach perfectly onto the SCAR so no maring, denting or scratching occurs. That being said, the rings attached to the sling which attach to the PMM mounts move freely and sometimes do cause maring or scratching when metal makes contact with metal. I am referring to these types which attach the sling to the mounts:

Thank you! This "I don't want to scratch my new tool" mentality may pass, but are there any rubber or plastic coverings (like heat shrink or the like) that anyone has used to cover the rings and prevent that?

Yes, I forgot to add that to my post, you can apply some kind of covering to the ring, like tape or heat shrink to prevent this. I used tape on mine. Electrical tape, hockey stick tape, cloth tape all work.

Thanks. That makes me feel less OCD for wanting to not scratch my gun up. I've read a lot of great feedback about Jared and PMM on this forum, which gives me confidence in his products.

Are you referring to the rear mount or the front? Here are some pictures of the PMM mounts.

Hope these pictures answer your question.

Hey guy's I designed my mounts as some of you know to integrate with the SCAR so they do two primary things

#1. Utilize the factory Sling mount points with out damaging the Sling plates or rifle ( IE nothing touches the rifle in a manner that will trash the finish)

#2. No need to remove any factory Hardware. There are tons of Threads in here about stripping the M4 bolts on the Uppers and the nightmare the follows in getting them out.

Hope that helps you can always PM me as well with questions.

I'm left handed so if I attached my sling to the right side of the weapon using the factory rear HK style hooks then I wouldn't be able to fold my stock. So I use a Blue Force Gear Wire Loop with the Quick Detach for the rear. This allows me to still fold my stock if I ever wanted to. For the front attachment point I purchased the GG&G Extended Scar Picatinny rail with an integral Quick Detach point cut into the rail. I use the Blue Force Gear VCAS 2-2-1 sling which allows me to run it as a two point sling or a single point. I'm really loving this setup. However, if I was right handed, I would definitely purchase one of those PMM QD mounts! Those things look very well designed and I've heard only good things about PMM!
