Well I should be receiving my 17s soon. Is there anything I should do once I get it before I take her out to the range?

I notice some people saying things about the gas setting, etc.

Is there any type of maintenance I need to do before the first shot is done?

Thanks
Dtt

Step #1: Get it home and open the box.
Step #2: Remove the manual and read in its entirety.
Step #3: Remove the weapon from the box & make sure you blow out all of the white Styrofoam that will be all over the gun and
inside every nook and cranny of the weapon.
Step #4: Field strip, and clean the cosmolene off the weapon and all parts in its entirety. Grease and lube per the manufacturer
owners manual.
Step #5: Purchase the Extended Angled Charging Handle (E.A.C.H.) from STRYKER ENTERPRISES right away.
Step #6: Purchase some SMK 168 grain ammo.
Step #7: Shoot that very bad weapon until your heart is content.
Step #8: Repeat before every range session and after every range session.

ENJOY and welcome to the forum!

Congrats on the incoming SCAR 17. Give a good clean and lube. Make sure the gas regulator is set at the 12 o' clock position. Shoot and have fun. Repeat as needed.

You can request a manual here. FN also has the pdf on their site.

Congrats on the scar! I'm not sure its actually cosmoline now, but they definitely gunk it up at the factory. Other than cleaning you mentioned the gas setting. Just make sure its in the 12:00 position. Mine is more like the 11:30 position, but there are only 2 settings, use the upper one.
