Off-duty deputy shoots alleged robbers while working second job at pizza restaurant in NW Harris County | abc13.com

A pizza delivery driver shot and wounded two robbers last night, and that delivery driver is also a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy.

It happened at the Domino's Pizza in the 7200 block of Louetta near Stuebner Airline in northwest Harris County.

Investigators said an off-duty sheriff's deputy was working his second job as a pizza delivery driver when he saw two men with guns trying to rob the place, both with bandanas over their faces. That's when the deputy drew his weapon and confronted the two suspects.

"The off-duty deputy encountered both subjects," HCSO Dep. Thomas Gilliland said. "A gunfight ensued in front of the store. Gunfire was exchanged between the deputy and both subjects."

According to deputies on scene, one of the suspects was shot inside the store. The other tried to run, but he collapsed and was taken into custody.

Both suspects were in critical condition at Ben Taub General Hospital this morning. The deputy was not hurt.

According to officials, the off-duty deputy has been with the department for more than 25 years. He retired from the force but then came back on as a part-time deputy.
