I recently bought 2 boxes of SS190 (in theory) on Gun Broker.
I have not seen any before but I became suspicious when I noticed the tab at the bottom of the box wasn't glued down.
I investigated a little further and I found the following possible problems:
The box is white and all I see on the internet are white.
The printing on the label seems to smear fairly easy.
The base of the casing has four marks around the primer which seems to indicate it may have been reloaded.
The bottom of the casing says 90 which doesn't seem correct.

Is there any possibility these are authentic?

I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Scott

Not to pour more doubt into you, but I was thinking about this the other day when I saw SS190 pulled bullets for sale. A crafty reloader could make a killing if he was able to successfully reproduce the boxes too.

Aren't those factory primer crimps though? I don't think home rigs can make those crimps.

Normal.

Only two colors of boxes, white and brown.

The base of the casing has four marks around the primer which seems to indicate it may have been reloaded.
Normal, factory primers are staked in.

The bottom of the casing says 90 which doesn't seem correct.
The year of production is stamped on the case.

What is the guy's rating on GunBroker? If it is a low count, be suspicious. If it is high, chances are he wants to keep his reputation. Check out his feedback, that should give you some good clues. someone would have caught him by now if he was not legit, plus gunbroker backs your purchase up...should be good, these forum members are very reliable and know their shi...stuff

it's probably not 90, as that would be in the SS90 area, it's probably 06 aka 2006. Does the bullet attract a magnet? What is the OAL length? If you chrono them and they all hit 2000 fps it's SS190 :)

The lot number would answer most of the questions.

Thanks for all the replies
The bullet is strongly attracted to the magnet.
there is not a lot number inside the flap.

The big problem is that SS190 was not introduced until about 1993. If you are reading the headstamp correctly as 90, then you have a problem.

One person suggested it was 2006. Where they made in 2006? I was suspicious of the 90 because I didn't think the were made then.

Then I guess it could easily be an 06 for 2006.
What about the magnet issue? Should it be attracted to a magnet?
The other issue is if there need be a lot number located under the upper flap?

I can't believe all the responses so quick. I really appreciate the help.

So it sound like everything is good except for a missing lot number. I assume this is not a critical issue.
Thanks for all the assistance. I guess I was just getting a little paranoid when I saw a few things that didn't add up to me.
