Hey all, hope everyone is doing well out there. If anyone cares, I spoke to the folks at FN today at an expo and was advised that the SS198LF will be shipping at the beginning of March. It will be LE sales only, but not restriceted like the tracer & AP stuff. The LE officer just needs to show department ID and you're good to go (individual officer sales). The projectile is the same as the 195 (28 Gr.) and should be clocking the same velocity & pressure as the 190. He said about 2300 from the pistol. As far as the SCAR goes, he said the light version will be out by this summer and the heavy version is expected to be available at the end of this year. Price range on the light model will be between 1500 - 2000. If this info was already put out, sorry 'bout that.

MrN,

I was told FN would be shipping the 198 to LE distributors for sales to LE personnel. The 198 has no legal (state or federal) restrictions, however, FN (corporate) wishes to keep it restricted to LE personnel. The difference is with the 190 stuff, the agency must order it for the department, with ATFE paperwork, the 198 can be purchased by any LE officer merely presenting his / her ID card. So, in answering your question, I guess you could fax your ID card to an internet ammo sales company and get it. I hope it's that simple. As far as ballistics, FN said it would rival the 190 in FPS... Hope that helps.

As long as it's not ATF restricted, it'll make it's way to the genereal public, just like SS192 ..

I don't have any real data regarding ss190 vs ss195. I thought they were the same other than the projectile itself.
Anyone have the info on FPS or Power levels of it?

Looks like its already made its way out to the general public, like any other +P+ 9mm "For LEO ONLY" ammo. Look around you should see it on shelves and online now.
Since its not restricted by the ATF, looks like any civi can get it now.
Only requirement seems to be, you need to be at least 21 years old :-D
Its in red/black box, simular design as the blue/black box SS197.

Sorry, not going to post where I saw it. Dont' want it to be bought up before I get a chance to head back there with some $.

Ask your local gun shop for it.
HAHAHA....I once asked them about the PS90 and they said, "...we don't sell video console...what are you talking about...is that made by Sony?"

I haven't gone to a gun shop in years...I buy everything on line.....and judging from my credit card bills and the constant stream of DHL, FedEx and UPS trucks...I BUY A LOT!

SS198LF

Gun dealers/ammo supply houses who want to maintain a relationship with FN isn't going to be selling the SS198LF anymore without proper documentation prior to the sale. What you see out there on the aftermarket sites is all that I'd imagine you'll be seeing - $23.99 a box is a pipe dream at this point, unless of course you're LE/MIL in which case you're good to go...so long as you don't try to "flip" it for profit.
