Thoughts on the fns

I've owned an fnp and fnx and both shot great. Both shot where you aimed the sights etc. So why did fnh decide to switch the sight hold to an "European style" as they will tell you on the fns?

I also wish they'd make an fnx compact. I love hammer semi auto guns and a compact fnx would be a dream. I doubt that will ever happen but can always wish.

New FNS-9

My FNS-9 is on its way to the FFL from Bud's Guns. Why the FNS?

- I like the size (roughly the same as a Glock 19).

- FN's sterling reputation (although Customer Service gets mixed reviews).

- Early complaints about the trigger that famously would go dead if pushed rearward seem to be resolved by a redesign in 2013.

- Dave Sevigny shoots for FN - that seems like a good testimonial.

- Research on the ATF web page shows FN selling 110279 pistols in 2013, the last year reported. These were presumably mostly FNS and FNP/FNX variants. That is a lot, and bodes well for parts and aftermarket support.

- Magazines are currently in stock at various major internet vendors; and the FNS-9 comes from the factory with three magazines.

- Various gun reviews seem very favorable. That may be the least useful indicator, though, because they tend to like everything.

- The FNS-9 won the NRA Golden Bullseye "Handgun of the Year" Award in 2013.

- I like the flat backstrap option; I always liked a flat backstrap on a 1911, too.

- A metal rather than plastic guide rod.

To the range this weekend!

The FNP/X/S all use the same sight pattern (cover where you want to hit)
Not what fnh told me on the phone and from what I've experienced.
I have never heard of a "European style" sight picture.

But most combat pistols today use sight image #3:

Number 3 is the sight picture I have to use with my FNS-9. Number 2 is what I must use with most of my other handguns.
Fnh told me over the phone that the #3 illustrated photo above was "European hold". That's how it shoots. My fnx9 was like #2

Except for the early FNP's (like 2006, maybe early 2007), FN has used #3 (at least whenever anyone has called them in my time here)

My new FNS9c requires more of a #2 sight picture.
