All,

Took the FNX45 Tac to the range, shot a few mags through and have found some pretty surprising wear on the barrel and also the top of the slide near the breach. See the attached photos - this is after only about 50 rounds. I cleaned all of the storage oil off before taking it there and lubed it pretty well.

Thoughts?

Normal. Those are spots it contacts the slide. The barrel hood (second pic) contacts the slide there, as do most tilting barrel type pistols.

Surprising? Have you ever shot a gun before... lol.

The slide will wear on the barrel. Sometimes it's over the top of the barrel, sometimes it's under. It depends on the tilt/length of bbl/slide cutout for bbl.

The FNP45s came that way from the factory. Personally I cover my barrel in grease which has prevented it from getting worse.

I dont know about the barrel -but I have noticed the same thing on the breach with my FNX9 (there is also a thread about this already on the FNX9)

While it may be a bit disturbing to see on your new handgun - it appears to be platform wide.

I've only put 25 rounds through mine so far and the wear is almost identical to yours... Thanks for your post, I was thinking they sold me a used gun....

They do test fire them at the factory. That's why they come looking used, because, well they technically are (to make sure they function properly).

Pic any Sig 22x, shoot, and see the same wear on bbl & hood.

FWIW,
Before and after pictures for reference. Second set of pictures are after putting 120 rounds through it at the range.

Same wear on my fnx tac. I also have the non-tac fnx 45 and it does not wear as much, also there is less movement of the barrel when you rack the slide back. I think its just because of the longer barrel in the tac. I just keep it lubed up with gun oil to cut down on the wear, you could always use some metal polish or perhaps bluing polish to clean it up a bit.
