VEPR 7.62x39 owners - what are you doing for magazines?

Have you installed a bullet guide in yours or are you running factory mags? If you have installed a bullet guide how was the process? From my inderstanding you have to shave surplus magazines a bit for them to work properly? How much exactly? Pictures would be a plus.

I figure I will replace the followers and springs with US parts if I decide to go that route. Did you have to remove much material?
