Lucky!

I had a chance to buy a black 17 on sale for $2525 last month. I transferred money to my checking account in the gunshop to make the purchase, but I just couldn't do it. My dream rifle is a FDE 17 and I knew if I had a black one, I'd always resent it. The store manager said he'd order a FDE sometime this month and give me a call. I'll have to pay $150-200 more but oh well.

Always best to wait for what you really want. I was in the same boat and had to wait for an FDE even thou it's a bit more $$$.

im in the same boat only its the 16 fde I'm waiting on....my go to ffl had an fde 17 in 2 days for me last month...and 3 weeks ago i called him asking for an fde 16 ...he said all 7 of his distributors are out of the fde 16's but they all have fde 17's ready to ship....i just don't have enough faith in humanity to "mail" out money and hope they actually send a rifle from an online sale...especially since he's selling a good bit cheaper than I've found online anyway....so im waiting not so patiently..lol

The wait is worth it to get what you want although when available I've learned don't delay because it will soon pass and will end up waiting or getting impatient and regret it.

Yeah, you did the right thing. At this level of spending you might as well try and get EXACTLY what you want. Welcome to the club and enjoy your SCAR! Hope the wait isn't too long!

I'll go with the prevailing winds. Wait it out. And don't be afraid of buying a used one. I got my FDE 17S with 5 mags, timney trigger, Midwest rail extension and 100 rounds of match ammo for $2500. Had about 600 rounds through it, which for the SCAR is doodly squat.

Thanks guys. I actually like the black just as much as FDE but nothing was in stock so since I had to order one anyways I asked for the FDE. Looking for ammo now. Storage and plinking ammo. .308 ain't cheap :/ And of course an ACOG would be nice on it someday.

Why does everyone like the fde as opposed to the black? I didn't think i would be going back to the desert anytime soon with my personal weapon so I got the black.
I think people like it because it's not your standard black rifle, first of all.

I personally like it also because it allows for some contrast, so it's easy to see all the components, to see the controls, etc. In manufacturing, it is common practice to paint the machinery in light colors so that any leaks or out of place components are very visible - same concept, for me.

And of course, the cool factor - the connection to our ongoing military operations in the sandbox.

I originally wanted a black Scar but when I came across a NIB FDE on GB for $2450 + $35 s/h I didn't hold back. The transfer fee was only another $30 and seeing that there was no sale tax I got away with a NIB Scar for only $2515.

The only thing that bent my nose, was for the price you would think that it would come with a basic cleaning kit. I went on eBay and pay a extra $200 (seen them go for $400) for a original kit. Could have gotten the cleaning/tool kits for $500 but I don't plan on completely disassembling my rifle in the field. The reason the kit cost so much is 4 reason. The carbon scraper, gas jet pin to clean the jet of carbon, if you can even find a kit and FNH-USA doesn't even offer one on their E-Store which is pure BS, IMO!
