I thought the thing was supposed to have hit the streets after Shot 2015? Or is this another company blowing hot air about a fictitious release date (cough cough sig)?

I have decided I want back into X39 due to the cheap ammo and availability. The Ace seems like it's right up my alley. Which version are they planning on releasing first? If it's 5.56 I'll be looking elsewhere.

On that topic I could use a reccomendation for a good platform that uses AK mags and obviously shoots X39. I would be willing to drop $1200 maximum on the right rifle at this point in time. AK's prices have been on the rise and will continue to be I think so I would like to get a good one before too much more time passes.

I was doing some searching and I stumbled across an American Made C39 RPK style AK on Atlantic firearms. It looks interesting to me but I don't know much about the company that makes them. Ever heard of it?

Hey Kam, how about the VEPR in 7.62x39 . It would be all new, come out of the Molot factory and have a chrome lined hammer forged barrel. I'm looking at getting one in .308 Win. and I think that's what I'm going with. The U.S. assembled ones just don't impress me, they can't even seem to be able to get the front sight on square, and I'm not paying 3500 for a Krebs. The VEPR in x39 is around 700, the .308 is about 1k . Just a thought.

I thought VEPRs were banned from import? I know that doesn't mean you can't find them but I know people charge out the @ss for pre-ban firearms. Know where one is in stock?

If you are looking for a really nice one without paying Krebs prices these two are probably the best currently on the market. From what I understand a company called DDI ( Destructive devices incorporated) bought out Waffen Werks and is making some pretty nice AK's. I don't know first hand because I have never held one. I heard mixed reviews about the Waffen Werks AK's

There is always the WASR, which I don't really recommend, but from what I understand they have gotten considerably better. Again I don't know first hand because I have not bought one of the newer WASR's.

SAM 7's are also pretty hot right now from Arsenal. I think they make four or so variants. The fixed stock traditional, side folding stock, under folding stock, and pistol. All milled receivers of course. personally I am not big on folding stocks, but that is just me. They are also too expensive if you ask me. The price on these has really climbed over the last few years, and it does not look like they are coming down. There are fewer choices of milled AK's though. So that may be driving the price some.

AS far as the C 39 goes,(also milled) I have only heard good things about it. my only complaint is I believe if they were going to go to all the trouble to build an all American AK, they could have at the very least made the profile of the gas block and front sight block correct. they left off the bayonet lug and the cleaning rod retainer.

This also happens to be one of my complaints about the Arsenal Sam 7SF. ( right side folder) because of the stock retaining latch in the receiver the cleaning rod will not fit in the hole on the forearm securely. I know it is a purely a cosmetic detail, but they just look incomplete without it. I'm picky like that.

You are also very correct Kam. The prices just keep creeping up on the premium AK's. I Think Arsenal is getting a little too pricey to be honest, considering every other manufacturer is at or Very close to what prices were before the Connecticut thing. I can't bear to even type the name of the school because I am just soooo sick of hearing it.

Whatever you decide to get I hope to see pics, and I hope you get the best one possible!

I have a Sam7sf, I love it. I would recommend an arsenal over other Ak's as you know what your going to get. My lgs here has about 10 left , an investor bought 50 when the obummer administration banned russian made Ak's. He has been selling them little by little. Best price around about 1k. Pm if your interested.

In my experience this is a safe bet. I have read some complaints on Arsenal AK's but I believe by in large they have the least customer complaints of the major manufacturers. They also have the advantage of a very well made CHF Chrome lined barrel. You would be very hard pressed to find a better AK barrel.

The ACE has been bumped back til mid to late summer, Veprs are well made just make sure the 922r was done properly. The best AKs are IMO built by Łucznik!

Any reason to go longer then 16.5" for X39?

I don't think so. The RPK is nice for the longer barrel, but it has a bipod, and it is kind of heavy. Around 16" seems to be the magic number for the x39 round. Better stability and velocity than shorter barrels, but not so bulky and obtuse as the longer ones.

I would have thought none of this would be news to you though. You are no novice with AK's. I seem to remember a video of you with an AKM and a slidefire? or am I wrong?

Nah you're right. However, I sold my AK, slidefire and all associated hardware/ammo in order to get out here. Data dumped all X39 info and replaced it with God knows what. Been busy with 300blk as of late too which loves short barrels  it will all come back to me after a couple hours of research.

Remember how long it took the Tavor to hit the streets? I remember it being years before they finally showed up at Shot, and then years before they were every commercially available. Also, IWI is trying to Support the Tavor, reintroduce the Jericho line of pistols, and introduce the Galil ACE in multiple calibers/barrel lengths at the same time? Yeah, I can see why they might need to push the release date back a few times.
