Ok - who isn't a Glock owner here?

My first handgun I bought/owned was a Glock 17 in 1993. That gun sucked. It jammed all the time. But, I knew that was not typical.

Later, I got a Glock 19, but sold it later. Then later a Glock 26 - sold it when I discovered the P99c A/S. Then later, I got a Glock 34 - but sold it about 2.5 years ago - I HATED the trigger.

No more Glocks for me...

No glocks for me. My first, and currently only pistol is my FNP-9. I don't like the looks of glocks or the triggers, or the fact that just about everyone and his brother seems to have one.

I had a 17 back in the 90's. The trigger sucked, felt like crap in my hand, was not accurate, the mag fell apart during one session, replacement mag at that time was $80 I think. But at that time 30 round mags were available for $35.

I wound up trading it for a P85. I don't care what kind of praises people heap on them these days I will never own another.

What's going to suck is that 99% of PD's ISSUE Glocks :( . I'm going to try and find a Dept. that will let me carry any type of HK, FN, or even Sig.

My first G17 was bought back around 1990. It was my fourth handgun purchase. I dry fired that thing for hours while sitting on the couch watching the tube. It was the first handgun that I was really able to shoot well.

I had to sell my guns a few years later, and I wanted to someday get another one. I eventually did. It has a lasermax guide rod, and thanx to TQTRAN, a nice light too. I put one of those Hogue "FitAll" grips on it and that helps the feel a lot.

I use it for home defense mainly. I don't shoot this one quite as good as the other one, but then again I haven't dry fired the heck out of it and it doesn't get as much range time as the SIG's.

I was wanting to trade it for a G19 a while back, but the truth is, I would probably never carry a Glock. I'm too used to the DA/SA triggers. The reason it gets home defense duty is because it has the laser and I have 100% confidence that it will go bang 18 times before I have to change mags.

There are quite a few departments out there that just have caliber requirements. Somewhere around here (can't remember which department right now) has a requirement of the caliber being 9mm or larger and I believe having a capacity of 7 rounds or more (which eliminates pretty much all revolvers that would meet the first requirement). Officers who choose to carry their own firearm must also show competence in firing it (which makes me wonder about the issued guns :-D ).

My uncle is a retired FBI agent and I believe he was issued a Glock. Either that or he has a Glock and was issued something else-I can't remember which, it's been a long time since I talked to him about that.

Several of the departments I'm looking at have very liberal restrictions on what an officer carries. I wouldn't be opposed to using my FNP-45 as a duty weapon if it continues to prove itself at the range.

The department I'd really like to get on, Lansing, IL, issues Sigs. I believe they're 226s in .40 S&W.

I did extensive technical comparisons of XD, 1911s, Sigs, and even FNs. I just could not resist two things about the GLOCK.

1. Weight.
Heck compared to some of the guns the GLOCKs were half the weight for similar capacity and barrel length. Even compared to some of the other polymers I looked at, the GLOCK was far superior in weight.

2. Trigger safety only.
When I do have to pull it out nothing stands in the way of use against an attacker. Be advised, I pray that day will never happen though. With a blackhawk holster that totaly covers the trigger and has a quick release...I feel totally confident that I will not have an ND as long as I am careful and keep it secure in the holster at all times.

Been happy with my 23 ever since.
