well even though they were exactly zombies i would say 28 weeks later beats all other zombie movies they were fast mean and weren't stupid
But that misses the point of the zombie threat. Zombies are supposed to be slow and mindless. Their threat lies in numbers and their single minded purpose - attack and consume the living. They have no fear or other motivation.
And of course in the 28 films they weren't undead. They were living people infect with rage. Still good movies but for a different reason than the Romero ones.
Does "I Am Legend" count as a zombie movie?
The original story is about vampires as well as the first two film versions.
The original Dawn of the Dead is the best zombie film but Shaun of the Dead is the best adaptation of the original zombie concept.
The movie with the potential to knock them all down a notch is World War Z (unless Hollywood screws it up)
