Opinions for the best Scar 17 optic option when you can't shoot anywhere past 200 yards/meters. Typical range 0-200 meters.

I planned on mounting a new acog ta11 with the horseshoe redical but I have seen mixed feedback on it for the Scar. I like the idea of extra range from a NF etc. but I don't have the ability to shoot farther than 200 yards where I currently reside.... I thought the acog would fit the bill in this situation?

I went with the ACOG TA11J-308. I am not a precision shooter, nor do I ever expect to do any competing, and the acog is perfect for me. Is every shot one the bull? No. Do i always hit the target? Yes. The farthest I shoot is 200yds as well. What I really like about the acog is that I can easily aim with both eyes open. No problem hitting a moving boar!

If you're only getting out to 200m, 7.62x51 really isn't what I'd pick. You're looking at serious over penetration issues at "zero" meters, and the round is barely able to shine at 200m vs the 5.56. What you're talking about is a 100yd gun.... I'd go with a 5.56 for that setup in 62grain or larger.

I've said this on a few different theads, that when it comes to CQB, that is NOT the same as short range engagements. CQB is like a shoot house scenario.. typical ranges between 3feet and 30 feet. With that in mind, there are NO perfect optics for both CQB and short to medium range.... only tradeoffs. Reflex optics are the fastest thing on target for CQB, but die-off quickly for targets between 50-100 yards when they are non magnified. For that reason, a lot of people use multiple optics in paralell, usually one reflex sight, and one magnified sight, or else a reflex/holographic sight with an independent and removable magnifier.

My suggestion for you is an Eotech MPOII system, I have one on my SBR 5.56 and for me is my 0-200 meter gun. Out past that, I'm reaching for a .308 in one flavor or another.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's psycho enough to just use an EoTech 553 on his SCAR. There's always this guy too:

...and her

So I guess you could say we're in good company ;)

Well shut my vagina and call me Sally! That's *TWO* complete sets of iron sights you got there, sonny ;)

You know, the M4 carrying handle actually works pretty well on top of an ACR. Kinda makes it look better too. Don't ask me how I know…

Call me crazy, but I just took the 3x magnifier off my SCAR, and I think it's going to stay that way for a while. Just something about that flip-to-side.... It's great on paper, but in practice, I've never been comfortable with it. Guess I'd better start saving pennies for a 1-4x Specter DR.

Goddammit.

 Its all about flair... how many pieces of flair can I add. But seriously not many people post about stuff they've spent a good bit of $$$ on and then find it doesn't work for them for what ever reason. Most don't do this because either because they talk themselves into liking something or don't want to get beat up by everyone else. Ever notice how many great reviews there are on optics but very very few that explain why it doesn't work as they thought it would.

Now the KAC NF combo does sound awesome and I'm sure those fortunate to own them would win 1000 internet points for each picture. Now you got me going...off to look at KAC gun porn pics

I realize that you have the minimum amout of flair, but Talhoffer over there has 30 pieces of flair...and look at that smile!

After I posted I went directly to Google and browsed SR-25s. I'm now in Wikipedia reading about claymores.
Eventually I'll end-up in porn, but for now, munitions.
Is there really a difference?
:p
Later.
