Hello,
I am a new member, so I hope this has not been posted already.
There seem to be many more high-quality options hitting the retail market for concealed carry pistols like the Ruger LCP, Sig P290, Para Carry, etc. I'm curious for those of you who are more familiar with FN, is there any rumor or possibility of an upcoming product? If one came out, would you be interested? And finally, for those of you who own sub-compacts currently, what models do you prefer?
Thanks.

I know some try and successfully CC the FNPs. I personally think it's too thick for that purpose. FNH will need to compete with a Keltec PF-9 to lure me, as I won't go anything below a 9mm for any reason. Plus the PF-9 is the thinnest and lightest CC weapon in its class. Probably the cheapest in price too. With a built on pocket clip, I don't even need a holster.

I don't even need something the size of a PF9. I have an LCP, love it, but I'd have more confidence with something bigger than a pocket gun.

These (FN) are great carry guns... but I don't try to CC it. If they cut the grip by an inch (FNXm?) and did away with all the "grip" and the 75 serrations and hard angles, I think it'd be great.

I have both the FNP9 and FNP9M. The M is almost identical in width, height, width and length to my compact 1911(with regular size grips) except it holds twice the rds and weighs 8-10oz less loaded and it almost rust proof compared to the "parked" 1911. That little bit shorter grip makes a big difference to me in CC compared to the FNP9. A single stack, 8-9 rd, <1" wide FNP would have me "first in Line"! ....but I'm not holding my breath based on recent FN new releases. :-(

I think many of us would want a slightly smaller FN for carry purposes - I currently CC a p229 which is much heavier and thicker, but grip is shorter. I know of many members that conceal an fnp/fnx without issue, I plan to as well as soon as my holster gets in. Unless you are wearing really tight clothing you will be surprised at how large of a pistol you can conceal with the proper holster and positioning.

There is a compact 45 in the works (or at least there was. I heard about it in the early prototype stage, so it may have changed since then). Not sure about other caliber's, but I would love a subcompact hammer fired 9.

CC with the FNP9 almost daily, except with one pair of pants that i carry my Taurus TCP in a pocket holster in. until my new holster comes in, the FN rides in a Don Hume 721OT for a Sig P250. Seems that all the holsters for my Sig fit the FN also. it also fits in a G30SF paddle very nicely beleive it or not. i posted this in another post but here is a link to another forum that has the custom made kydex and leather IWB or IWB/OWB Belt configurations for $50 shipped. i have no affiliation with him other than loving his holsters (one week approx delivery, waiting for mine for the FN but tried a buddys), high and tight with a combat cut, the IWB hooks are metal and have 6 positions to put the weapon wherever you want. take a look;

Antonio,

Go back and look and look at the FAQs in the "FNUSA" section. Early on we had a company rep who would answer questions. The subcompact theme came up often-cause I asked it alot! ha ha. They are "in the works" There was also a post by an individual who shall go nameless that spilled some company beans a bit early and his post was hastily removed. He did hit the FNX spot on and said they have a singlestack striker fired Subcompact 9 they are working on. There was also a post of a prototype compact .45. These have been hinted about for ages, surely to God they have them ready to go by now!!

Dan and CB and you guys give us some insight

You might hear something about them at this coming SHOT, but I think the new thing for FN will be the FNS and they'll probably hold off until the following SHOT show for the compact guns (I'm still hoping for this coming one, but not really expecting it). For all I know, these projects could be dead.

I am not a big fan of the pocket rocket subcompact pistols to be honest. Only reason I have considered an lcp is for pocket carry as a bug. Now the sig 290 has taken its place on my list due to caliber, but will wait to see how people like that before I think about it. I just don't like the fact that they are generally .380, and such a short barrel the bullet doesn't reach a decent velocity. The guns are so small they are hard to control, etc. etc. - I could just never see myself using one of these as my primary defense weapon.

Sure, for their design they are good - an immediate close range self defense weapon. What it comes down to is if we knew the day we would have to use our defense weapon, that would be the only day we would carry....and it would be a long gun. Since I don't know if or when I will ever have to use a weapon in self defense, I am going to carry as large of a pistol I can carry comfortably while still maintaining conceal-ability.

That being said, I would look forward to an FN compact 45 much more than some subcompact striker fired 380 or 9 etc. And I am not hating on the 9mm round, it is my favorite round I just rather have a good all around single stack compact.

Thanks for the great info. I knew there must be something out there on this.

Dan,

Is the FNS the new striker-fired pistol that was mentioned on the boards awhile back??

Hmm, sounds interesting. Would prefer a hammer-fired single stack .40 though.

Yeah. If you go on FN's European site, I think they have the FNS listed. The frame is very similar to the FNX's minus the decocker/safety lever, although the FNS has a safety at the top of the frame. The trigger is jointed like the M&P's vs. the Glock style trigger.

I too would prefer a single stack hammer fired gun (I'd go with 9mm and 6 or 7 rounds in the mag).

A 10 round single stack magazine. Cut the barrel down to 3.5" and take an 1" off the grip length. I would buy one in a heart beat.
If you take an inch off the grip length, you're not going to have a single stack 10 round mag. Double stack, yes, but I'd personally like thin.

I want a pocket gun, or back-up ankle gun. 3" bbl, 6 round single stack mag, DA/SA hammer fired.
