Converting my AR-15 (M4) .223 into an AR-10 (.308) help

Alright fellas I am going to need your help with this, I have been thinking about this forever and am still confused.

I own a colt LE6940 M4 which is a .223 rifle. What I want to understand is how a person is able to take an AR-15 and convert it into a different caliber. I want to take my Colt and be able to swap between a .223 caliber and a .308 caliber. So how do I do that?

I understand that I have my Colt upper and its lower, what I am curious is can I buy just a new upper and keep the lower intact without any modification(s)? or does the lower have to be modified too?

I wish I could elaborate more but I am sure once we get talking about it a lot of the details will be fleshed out. :?

The conversion you're referring to is restricted to the cartridge family based on the .223 cartridge, or a cartridge that is shorter in length than the .223. The .308 Winchester will never be converted to from a .223 platform from a weapon such as a Colt 6920, 6940, and so on. The major components are just too small. :?

*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, this doesn't apply to the 50 cal. single shot "conversion" upper.

You can't.

The .223 and .308 lowers are a different size and shape. Even if it was possible to alter the Colt lower to take a .308 upper you'd never be able to mount a .223 upper on it again. Better just to buy a AR10 rifle and be done with it.

I saw that in Brussels. My group was looking for it, not really knowing where we were going. We were at a street corner and we saw some people looking at one of the corner's and we were wondering what they were looking at. We turned around and saw the peeing boy statue.

The thing is maybe 18 inches high. It was kind of disappointing. I saw a chocolate version that was bigger.

Here's the pic I took:

It was at night, so it's not the greatest pic

What manufacturer makes the 308 receiver in this picture?

Thanks.

6.5 Grendel! Mine is almost done, I'm just dragging my feet on getting the scope ring unimount. Quality ammo is hard to come by too but I've got almost everything necessary to do some reloads.
