Has anyone figured out a way to extend the magazine release button to make it easier to change magazines? It just seems to be to level with the grip to release the magazine easily.

You can install a mag release from a FNS9/40 full size pistol or from a FNX9/40 in a FNS9/40 compact to get a bit more height than the mag release that comes standard on the compact models.

You can even install the mag release from a FN-509, which has a different texture pattern and sticks out even more. In fact, I put the FN509 mag releases on my FNX9s, and they are a nice improvement. They would really be prominent on a FNS9 compact.

I don’t know about the mag releases for the compacts mentioned in the 2016 American Rifleman article. That is, the ones that are longer on just one side, left or right. That sounds like a great idea. If I wanted one, I’d call the FN Pro Shop for more info.

There are YouTube videos on removing/installing mag releases on these pistols. It’s easy to do. Just don’t pull the spring out all the way - just far enough for the old mag release to drop out.

I just wanted to add my experience with this subject:
I have a FNS9c and I swapped out the stock mag button for the full size FNS button. I was carrying my 9c in a shoulder holster and while sitting in a movie theater I leaned against the armrest and the mag dropped to the floor. So I swapped back to the standard one. The end.
