Hello!

To make the Scar featureless. I know you gotta:
1. Switch the flash hider, with muzzle break/compensator
2. Make it not a pistol grip
3. Make it "fixed" stock

I am just wondering about the stock.

It is already pinned down so it can't fold.
But what about extend?
How would you pin that?

Thank you!

Unless you can find a manufacture that is willing to make a new lower (trigger housing) that can be open for the release of the magazine, I think you are out of luck. IIRC you now have to open the firearm (break it) to release the magazine and I know of no one that has been able to work around this problem thus far, at least I have not read or heard of this happening.

Your options thus far are to register it as an assault firearm in which case you can not transfer it or even will it to a family member once you die (it will have to be surrendered for destruction); or move it out of state to a "friends house" and use it there (out of state), or move out of California, or sell it.

There was a detailed thread on this very subject about 4 months ago when the law was first passed.

California is trying to outlaw every type of firearm except a muzzle loader (musket) from the 17 hundreds.

Piece by piece they chip away at your rights and eventually they will get all the way to the end.

I will try to locate the thread about this discussion however, IIRC there was no solution except registering it as an assault firearm or housing it out of state.

It's quite easy to make the SCAR stock featureless, but you do need to disable the folding as well as the collapsible action.

1. Folding action can be done many ways but I recommend buying the Raddlock SCAR stock block. It's an adjustable system that lets you lock it in place for when you shoot in Cali and unlock it for normal function when shooting in Free States. MolonLabe.com should still have these in stock and is worth the $15 cost.

2. The collapsible function can be disabled by anything that will fit between the button and the stock itself. Lego bricks work, even larger chamber bore flags work well once you snip the flag portion of it. Anything that prevents the button from being pressed is all that needs to happen.

Regarding the pistol grip, I've found the Magpul MIAD 1.1 modified by Parker Mountain Machine + the Back Fin from Exile Machine to be the absolute best solution for the SCAR or any AR-style rifle. The thumb shelf on the Back Fin gives you complete control of the rifle with one hand making it a huge improvement over the other finned grip solutions.

Feels wrong to neuter the scar like that.

The way CA is going, if the DOJ decides to inspect your muzzle device, and if the specific one you are using advertises anything about having flash hiding capabilities then it's a no go.

if I'm correct the PWS brake that comes with SCARS mentions flash hiding capabilities, like a KAC MAMS does ..so those are no go.

I wouldn't take any risk in that state regardless what anyone says.

Bud, Wear your rhino suit. I was Californian many years ago.

--taken from FNH--

Early 2004, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) issued a solicitation for a family of Special Forces Combat Assault Rifles, the so-called SCAR, designed around two different calibers but featuring high commonality of parts and identical ergonomics.
FN Herstal took part in the full and open competition and released prototypes of a brand new family of weapons within timeframe taking advantage of our long-standing firearms know-how.

From the first pre-selection tests, the FN SCAR® system developed by FN Herstal has remained the first and only choice of USSOCOM.
Besides the obvious, Combat Assault Rifle being blatantly stated in the model name of the rifle, why did you buy this rifle? Sell it and get a compliant muzzle-loader rifle or a prop.

Yeah it's a 2nd amendment right, that other states have. Not you... Seems you and/or your congressman are not going to stand up for your rights.

If you do register, you are assuming the CaDOJ AG bureaucratically stamped you as an outlaw because you registered. Oh well, they took your birthday away, right? I'm not keeping up with these changes either. The way I see it these laws are always changing and no amount of compliance will appease the CA liberals in the end. Your neighbors and the CA elite wanted this despite your constitutional rights.

Why do the minority people of California think now they are going to change the face of their state govt? California is the gun rights Titanic, the pail of water you metaphorically carry and dump is not going to stop it from sinking. I'm betting the NRA prolly understands this speculation: After this current administration is gone, it's back to old, even far worse, anti-2a California.

:? Californians buying any semi-auto magazine fed rifle, like it or not you're sticking it to yourself, not the "man."

Ok, no more arguments... from PWS (emailed to me this morning...), " For your info here is the answer… The BATFE letter is accepted across the country and from discussions with lawyers and other professionals the MOD2 version is covered under the letter as all MOD1 versions were as well.
Everywhere but CA accepts that the FSC series is a muzzle brake and not a flash hiding device; CA DOJ, on the other hand, has classified the FSC as a flash hider due to the name of the product and it cannot be used in CA on a featureless build, it is only acceptable on a CA registered firearm.
PWS does not make any muzzle device currently which can be used on a featureless build in CA; all our offerings are considered flash hiding devices by CA DOJ."

CA Sucks!

How do you make you SCAR "California compliant" for 2017? Leave your guns in AZ or NV. Why reward a state financially when they use semantics to go-around the 2nd amendment? Just because the state is doing it doesnt mean its legitimate, often times its not. Buy a residence in AZ or NV and keep your investments there. It really doesn't take a lot of money, especially compared to California.

Hi everyone, I’m new to this Forum. A friend and SCAR owner invited me to join and tell you about my solution for the SCAR 16/17s in California. I make a product called the FC Hook for AR15/AR10s that converts them into a Fixed Magazine allowing the rifle to keep evil features. I just finished and field tested a prototype for the FN SCAR. It works perfectly. It turns the SCAR into a Fixed Magazine and you cannot remove the magazine without disassembling the action.

This will be an excellent solution for you SCAR owners and you won’t have to make your SCARs featureless.

We don’t know when our new SCAR version of the FC Hook will be available for sale. We are having trouble with finding a supplier to sell us the original magazine Catches, Buttons, and Roll Pins at a reasonable price that is not five times more than the reasonable retail cost. Without naming any names, I’ve only been able to find one authorized FN parts distributor. And neither FN or their parts distributor are willing to sell us the parts at wholesale prices. Our current challenge is trying to make our own FN mag catch, and button to build the FC Hook with. We are working to resolve this road block.

Sign up on our website, also our Instagram and YouTube channel so you will get the latest update on the SCAR FC Hook.

You’ll see photos on Instagram first, then a video on YouTube, followed by introductory pricing coupon code from our website email subscriber system.

Hopefully I’ll have an update in a about a month.
