Good evening FNF members,

I am looking for a decent scope mount for the Remington 870 12 gauge platform. What I am looking for, is something solid to mount a Trijicon RMR on. I have seen a few that have a tunnel for shooting with the bead, that's nifty, but not a necessity. What are the decent brands? Any leads, and/or suggestions you guys are willing to share?

:th_sign0009:

P.S. The gun is a Super Magnum with a 3.5" chamber, with a parkerized matte black finish.

Thanks in advance! :?

KAC,

Here's a quick iPhone picture of the B-Square optics mount (shotgun saddle mount) on my Remy 870 Marine Magnum.

Super easy to install -- punch out the two trigger pins, slide the optic mount on over the receiver, two allen screws with supplied wrench, boda boom boda bing, two minutes and you're done.

Running an EOTech 511.D1 on mine -- be aware, the rail is Weaver style only, so make sure your optic is Weaver compatible (RMR no problem).

Lemme know if you need a better quality picture or two -- I could throw an RMR on for you if you need help visualizing.

I really like this thing, and an EOTech on a shotgun is a great upgrade! I run a 512.A65 on my FN SLP MkI -- huge improvement.

I am going to get the camo setup and a camo EOTech for a fall turkey gun next....

Sure thing, KAC!

I'll get you a picture, with an RMR mounted even (!!), from the ejection port side, tomorrow -- gotta hit the rack now -- or else I'll shoot the alarm clock tomorrow morning....

KAC:

Here is your requested view, shot with my good camera to help you see the details. Sorry I couldn't post this yesterday -- press of other responsibilities took over my schedule....

Also, you were asking about extended magazine tubes -- I would recommend you stay with the factory Remington extended tubes -- they are very stout and sturdy, and the clamp to the barrel is important to maintain rigidity on a pump shotgun when you are racking the slide and stress-flexing the gun under repeated recoil with magnum loads...plus, it keeps your warranty intact...something to always consider....

Good luck with your project gun. I plan on building a turkey gun and a slug gun this year, myself....

Thanks Clyde!

It appears as though that particular mount will partially cover the rear of my ejection port. It isn't something that I couldn't fix, but I'm looking for something I won't have to modify. Otherwise I'll have to also track down some Cerakote to refinish the mount on account of where I made my "enhancements".

Right now, I'm enrolled in school, and only working part time. Next semester I'll be in school full time, so I'm in full save mode, all the while still trying to eek out this project. So far, my bill is $500 minus the cost of an optic and mount. It'll cost me the price of a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan to complete this build, which has been on my list for a little while now. Decisions... Decisions... :?:.

I appreciate you taking the time to post those pictures. They were very helpful.

I also appreciate your input on the magazine extensions. I'm still undecided as to that. I know whichever extension I choose, I will also purchase a Mesa Tactical mag tube clamp to keep things as rigid as possible. The factory Remington mag clamp seems anemic by comparison.

Your boomstick looks nice! :? Is that a Blackhawk sling??? I have several bandoliers ready to go that are in a similar fashion. The sling I went with on my 870 is a Quake Claw, which is a really badass, comfortable, non-slip sling.

Thought about something like this?

Amazon.com: Burris SpeedBead Red Dot Reflex Sight (Remington 870 12 Gauge): Sports & Outdoors

I'd probably go that route personally if what Clyde posted is going to cover your ejection port partially. Plus, it's pretty cheap.

Or there's the Mesa Tactical: Mesa Tactical Saddle Mount Rail Remington 870 1100 11-87
I know about the SpeedBead/ Fastfire. The reason I'm steering away from it is the battery powered aspect. Sure the batteries last a long time, even if you forget to switch off the device, but that isn't a risk I'm willing to take on this build. This is for HD, so I'm leaning towards a Dual Illumination version of the Trijicon RMR. It's lightweight, and has no batteries to attend.

As far as the Mesa Tactical rail, I don't really want to go with a side saddle on the receiver. Not to mention, I have a Knoxx Spec Ops adjustable pistol grip stock. I can order a Knoxx Power Pak System, with which I could add a side saddle to the butt stock. That would help to counterbalance the weight of the forend/barrel. I like the Mesa Tactical rail, but I haven't found one which lacks the side saddle.

Thank you for the link to SmartGunner.com, it's new to me, and I appreciate it. :?

Thank you, KAC! I finally have it rigged up the way I want it.

Yeah, man, that is a Blackhawk sling -- holds fifteen rounds, and I have an Uncle Mike's Sidekick belt slide that holds six slugs that slides on, plus a Blackhawk buttstock shell holder -- gives me 26 rounds on the gun, and seven in the pipe, so 33 rounds with one grab. I have another non-slip Blackhawk sling I use for my other field shotgun, but I have these shell-holder slings for every shotgun I own. I really like them, and you can wear them around your waist or sling them across your chest to carry them, double them up and bandoleer them, or hook them to your gear/ride/dog/pack-mule/gun-donkey....

I also have a couple Blackhawk 55-shell bandoleers loaded with Hornady Tap and Winchester buckshot for the go-bags. Those things are really well-made.

With a shotgun, you know what they say, when you are not shooting it, you need to be reloading it....
