Well, after all this I'm pretty much convinced I'll have the coolest titanium toothpick EVER in a couple of days!

SgtStryker, how much are you letting the FN 17 pins go for these days? I didn't know they were available or I would likely have just bought a factory one from you!

And to everyone who contributed, THANK YOU! I wasn't expecting this thread to turn into such a learning experience!

MGW lists only SCAR 16 pins which are different.
I think my firing pin directly from FN was around 35 bucks.
Sarge's price is about the same and if he has it in stock then it would probably get to you sooner.
It took FN about 2 weeks to get mine out.

Grade 6 Titanium is a 6/4 ELI which is used in medical implants. It's the strongest and most durable Titanium on the market. The yield strength is 140,000 psi.

I can attest to the joint implants, but they usually alloy the Ti with Cr and Co.

Stretching it to the failure point is not an issue. Hammer on it and you'll see why it's a poor choice for firing pin material.

I actually have a heat treated stainless steel pin. Got it from Firing Pins Direct It's been working great, no issues. I do have their titanium pin in my AR and it's been working fine. Took it out to inspect after 500 plus rounds and it still looked new. Not for sure on the FN. I did see hi-desertdog was selling Ti pins as well. May have to give it a try.
